2025 Cobra KING Tec Irons

Forged looks and forged feel never go out of style. However, when forged stylings are infused with a fair serve of modern technology, there’s some substantial substance to go with all that forged flair.

That exact formula has served Cobra’s KING Tec iron range incredibly well for nearly a decade and the latest generation of the much-loved irons promises more of the same — but, at the same time, a whole lot more.

Three new iron models — KING Tec, KING Tec X and KING Tec X ONE Length — look set to be some of the hottest player’s-distance irons in 2025 and beyond.

CLEAN, FORGED AND TECH INFUSED

The rapid uptake of player’s-distance irons has been one of the most astonishing trends in golf over the past decade. During that time, the Cobra KING Tec range has consistently propelled the category forward with innovative technology advancements and soft forgings.

In 2025, the Cobra KING Tec iron maintains the same compact, blade-like appearance that will appeal to the eye of better players. But hidden within its hollow-bodied head lies a bewildering range of speed, feel and forgiveness updates.

Meanwhile, Cobra KING Tec X and Tec X ONE Length irons feature a larger sized head and a few extra design twists that step outside the player’s-distance box and veer into game improvement territory.

All three Cobra KING Tec irons feature a chassis made from forged 1025 carbon steel. Cobra’s forging process goes one step beyond everyone else, introducing a fifth and final strike which is said to refine shaping and elevate feel by enhancing the grain structure of the steel.

HOTTER FACE AND MORE TUNGSTEN

As you’d expect in a player’s-distance iron, the club face is where considerable attention has been focused. Cobra’s variable thickness HOT face returns in the new KING Tec range and this time it’s thicker in the centre and more thinned out around the perimeter. The face plate now wraps around the leading edge and into the sole, forming a kind of L shape. The advantage of the new design is a bigger sweet spot and extra flex of the face, creating more speed, distance and forgiveness, particularly for strikes low on the face.

In the previous KING Tec and KING Tec X release, the 4-7 irons featured tungsten weighting inside the cavity. In the 2025 version, Cobra have pushed all their chips to the middle of the table by installing more tungsten inside the irons than ever before.

We’ll get to specifics later, but the tungsten lowers the head’s centre of gravity to increase the launch angle and create a higher ball flight in all three models. However, the 8-PW in the KING Tec and KING Tec X sets are tungsten free, which keeps the launch angle down to improve distance control in the short irons.

The new Cobra KING Tec irons also feature a new vibration-absorbing foam injected into the internal cavity. Containing millions of air-filled glass bubbles, the foam provides a softer feel off the face, more responsive feedback and a much nicer impact sound.

COBRA KING TEC IRON

The standard Cobra KING Tec iron is designed for better players, with Cobra anticipating it will suit handicaps ranging from 0-12. The KING Tec iron is again skewed towards the player’s part of the player’s-distance iron spectrum, with a shortened the blade length and a softer topline culminating in what Cobra call a “tucked toe” design.

Meanwhile, the PW in the KING Tec has been redesigned to resemble a wedge, with a flatter topline and a straighter leading edge aimed at smoothing the gap between the iron set and the lowest lofted wedge in the bag.

In the new KING Tec long irons (4-7), 20g of tungsten weighting is inserted inside the cavity around the low heel section. That’s 5g more tungsten than the previous model, leading to higher-launching long irons that will fly longer and stop quicker.

COBRA KING TEC X IRON

The new Cobra KING Tec X irons arepart of the player’s-distance category, but they probably just scrape in.

Featuring a larger head profile than the standard KING Tec model, KING Tec X irons are closer to game improvement irons. But with their forged construction and exquisite feel, they are unique irons that will appeal to a higher handicap range.

KING Tec X irons feature over three times more tungsten as their standard KING Tec counterparts, with 70g of the high density metal inserted into the long irons. It is designed to help players launch their long irons with considerable ease while improving forgiveness by increasing ball speed for off-centre strikes.

The Cobra KING Tec X iron also features a rounder and slimmer topline, an aesthetic that designed to minimise the visible offset.

COBRA KING TEC X ONE LENGTH IRON

Featuring the same technology and larger profile as the KING Tec X iron, the KING Tec X ONE Length model offers single length consistency.

The 4-6 KING Tec X ONE Length irons feature slightly wider soles compared to KING Tec X irons. The ONE Length set features slightly higher lofts and more offset across the board.
