Mizuno JPX925 Forged Irons

Almost six months after releasing a trio of Hot Metal models to kick off the new JPX925 iron line-up, Mizuno rounds out its distance focused franchise with a new JPX925 Forged iron.

Once the original JPX iron, the JPX925 Forged model is now somewhat of an outlier in the family. It’s the sole one-piece forged JPX representative after Mizuno ditched the Tour model in favour of a new standalone iron. The three Hot Metal JPX925 models are multi-material irons.

A true player’s-distance cavity back, the JPX925 Forged iron occupies the space between straight out speed/distance and player-friendly traits such as workability, feel and finesse. And the best thing is the JPX925 Forged comes in satin chrome or black…

JPX925 FORGED: WHAT TO EXPECT

The new JPX925 Forged iron wouldn’t look out of place in Mizuno’s flagship forged iron series, the Mizuno Pro range. It’s the most compact JPX925 iron and as a package it feels more refined and cleaner than its predecessor, the JPX923 Forged iron.

Blade lengths are shorter and toplines are thinner. Given the demise of the Tour, it appears Mizuno is trying to compensate by offering a more compact Forged model, but it will still resonate with the JPX target audience.

It should be noted the JPX925 Forged iron isn’t intended for slow swing speeds — that’s what the Hot Metal models are for.

FORGING AHEAD WITH GRAIN FLOW HD

The JPX925 Forged iron is built on the feel-inducing foundation of Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged HD process, which aligns the natural grain structure of the metal in the forging process to enhance feel.

Mizuno chose Chromoly 4120 as the raw material for JPX925 long irons (4-7). The alloy is complex to forge but its high strength properties allowed Mizuno to create a thinner and more flexible face that elevated speed and distance in the new Forged iron.

Meanwhile, the short irons (8-PW) are constructed from a softer 1025E Carbon Steel which aids control and precision.

The JPX925 Forged doesn’t feature Mizuno’s copper underlay.

CORTECH FACE

If the Grain Flow HD forging process is the foundation of the new JPX925 Forged irons, then Mizuno’s CORTECH Contour Ellipse face design is the engine room.

If CORTECH already sounds vaguely familiar, chances are you’ve seen the CORTECH CHAMBER on Mizuno’s ST driver and fairway woods.

In the JPX925 Forged irons, CORTECH is essentially a multi-thickness face that imparts acceleration to the ball at impact. It provides more pop out of the middle of the face, and also maintains ball speed when strikes veer off centre.

TRIPLE CUT SOLE

A new sole design distinguishes the JPX925 Forged from its Hot Metal counterparts in the JPX925 iron line.

The Forged’s triple cut sole is a stark contrast to the multi thickness sole installed on the Hot Metal line-up. The sole of the game improvement JPX925 Hot Metal irons is primarily designed to help the face flex and boost ball speed and distance. But the Forged’s sole targets efficient turf interaction.

The leading edge features a soft bevel which aids a clean entry into the turf, while the trail edge is much sharper — guaranteeing a fast and smooth exit from the turf. Meanwhile, the middle of the sole is gently cambered around the heel and toe to enhance control and versatility from all types of lies.

MIZUNO JPX925 FORGED IRONS

Featuring a traditional satin chrome finish, the JPX925 Forged is a modern player’s-distance iron that fuses speed with Mizuno’s renowned forged feel.

MIZUNO JPX925 BLACK FORGED IRONS

The JPX925 Black Forged iron features a brooding, non-reflective black finish. The modern player’s-distance iron merges speed with the exquisite feel of Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged HD process.
