First came the PING ChipR, a new kind of club to alleviate the chipping yips. Now, PING release the BunkR, a new sand wedge designed to help you escape from the sand first time, every time.
Based on the famous PING Eye 2 sand wedge, the new PING BunkR’s head shape, loft and bounce specs allow golfers to employ a regular square faced chipping action to pop shots out of the sand with ease.
Featuring 64° of loft, the new PING BunkR is about as extreme as a wedge gets.
Normally, only the best short game exponents would possess the necessary skill to effectively play such a high loft. But because the BunkR is chiefly designed for use in the sand, the club’s extreme loft and 14.5° of sole bounce allows golfers to play bunker shots with a square face.
So instead of opening up your stance, opening up the face of your sand wedge and taking a steeper swing, the PING BunkR will pop the ball out of the sand simply by employing a regular chipping motion.
While the BunkR is aimed at beginners and higher handicappers who haven’t yet mastered a consistent bunker technique, the BunkR could also benefit more experienced golfers who struggle out the sand or regularly play a course that has very soft sand in its bunkers.
The new PING BunkR will be available at GolfBox on March 28, 2025, but can be pre-ordered now.
