Keith Mitchell What's In The Bag (2025)

Keith Mitchell may not be a household name in golf just yet, but the 32-year-old American has one of the more unique bags on the PGA Tour.

Winner of the Honda Classic in 2019, Mitchell is a Mizuno staffer. He is also semi-famous for wearing premium knitwear (he's known on tour as "Cashmere Keith") and a distinctive high crowned visor. After a solid but unspectacular 2024, Mitchell was within touching distance of a second win at the Sanderson Farms in October. He led after 54 holes but couldn’t close it out, finishing tied third behind Kevin Yu.

DRIVER — MIZUNO ST-Z 230 (9.5°)

Featuring a classic pear-shaped head and a neutral ball flight, Keith Mitchell’s Mizuno ST-Z 230 driver offers a powerful combination of speed and forgiveness.

The ‘Z’ in its name refers to its design parameters, which sees the centre of gravity spread across the Z-axis of the head, or the front-to-back axis. Mass is split between its rear and front sections: the weight at the rear provides stability while mass at the front of the head serves to cut spin and boost ball speed. The capacity to precisely position discretionary mass within the head is attributed to the weight savings generated by the ST-Z’s lightweight carbon fibre crown and sole piece.

Also powering the ST-Z 230’s performance off the tee is Mizuno’s CORETECH Chamber, which is comprised of a small, steel shaft suspended in a springy slab of blue polymer. At impact, the CORETECH Chamber reacts and rebounds quicker than the ST-Z 230’s SAT 2041 forged beta titanium face, imparting an acceleration effect as it engages with the face. It also boosts the performance of low strikes on the driver face quite noticeably.

Keith has a Mitsubishi Diamana WB 73 TX shaft paired with his Mizuno ST-Z 230 driver.

FAIRWAY WOODS — TAYLORMADE Qi10 (3W, 16.5°), TITLEIST TS2 (7W, 21°)

Keith plays a TaylorMade Qi10 three wood and uses it from the tee box and off the deck. It offers the perfect mix of speed and launch and its 190cc head provides a high level of forgiveness via the lightweight Qi10 infinity crown and V-steel sole.

Meanwhile, Keith’s Titleist TS2 seven wood appears to be a bit of a keeper. It’s several generations removed from Titleist’s current GT fairway range but its largish head and deep face are perfect for launching the ball high, especially out of the rough.

Keith has a Mitsubishi Diamana Tensei 1K Blue 90 TX shaft fitted to his three wood and a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro Blue 90 TX shaft in his seven wood.

IRONS — MIZUNO PRO 221 (4-9), MIZUNO PRO 225 (2)

Keith’s Mizuno Pro 221 irons are your typical compact, traditional irons generally found in the bags of elite tour players. They are elegant, modern muscleback blades that offer precision and workability and feature a copper underlay that enhances the famous forged Mizuno feel. Mizuno Pro 221 irons are designed with a progressive centre of gravity, which promotes a lower and higher-spinning trajectory in the shorter scoring irons.

Meanwhile, Keith’s Mizuno Pro 225 two iron is a slim-line, hollow-bodied forged model that is tuned for high-launching distance. Mizuno have loaded the Pro 225’s head with tungsten to drive the centre of gravity lower and deeper. It also features a wider sole than Keith’s Pro 221 irons, to provide a higher level of forgiveness through the turf.

Keith has True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 shafts fitted to all his irons. Mizuno Pro 221 and Pro 225 have been seperseded by the Mizuno Pro 241 and Pro 24 irons, respectively.

WEDGES — MIZUNO T24 (46°) MIZUNO T22 (50°, 56°), VOKEY WEDGEWORKS PROTO (60°)

The T24 wedge is Mizuno’s tour-level model. It features the same grain-flow forging as Keith’s Mizuno Pro irons to provide exceptional feel. Keith’s 46° model functions as his pitching wedge and its compact shape aligns seamlessly with his Mizuno Pro 221 nine iron. Mizuno T24 wedges feature a thin topline, however, Mizuno have migrated mass slightly further up the head to raise the CG, which creates extra spin and brings down the launch angle for a lower and more penetrating trajectory. Keith's T22 wedges are the predecessors to the new T24 wedge. Keith plays his Mizuno T22 and T24 wedges in the copper denim finish.  

A 60° Vokey Wedgeworks prototype wedge is customised to suit Keith’s short game. It’s his go-to wedge around the greens and in greenside bunkers and its unique sole grind profile is suited to open-faced shots.

PUTTER — SCOTTY CAMERON J.A.T. PROTOTYPE

It’s been a revolving door of flat sticks recently for Keith but he’s currently playing a custom made Scotty Cameron J.AT. Prototype putter.

It's a classic Scotty Cameron shape (J.A.T. stands for Just A Thought) with a simple, compact half-moon design. Keith's prototype is fitted with a flow neck hosel.

Keith has also played a TaylorMade Spider Tour X putter, a mallet putter designed to promote face rotation similar to that of a blade putter. Weights are fitted to the Spider Tour X’s sole rather than within the signature wings of TaylorMade Spider putters. It shifts the centre of gravity nearer to the face to permit the face to open and close more easily, without impacting the abundance of stability that mallet putters are known for.

BALL — TITLEIST PRO V1

The 2025 three-layer Titleist Pro V1 is an excellent fit for Keith’s game. With a lower compression, it feels softer than Titleist’s Pro V1x golf ball. But it delivers a superb blend of low-spinning and low-launching distance off the tee while offering incredible spin and significant stopping power around the greens.
